About Us

We have been training hunting retrievers for 25 years. I acquired my first duck hunting lease and of course every hunter needs a retriever. I started training my personal hunting dog.

Keith Schopp of Ralston-Purina said, “Barry's determination and desire combined with Becky's organization and loving care makes B & B Kennels a successful team with a strong work ethic.” le involved in the Hunting Retriever Club, ran our first puppy in a Started hunt test, and we were hooked. I started training with club members and knowledgeable trainers, read everything I could get my hands on, watched videos, and attended seminars on training and the electronic collar.

We owned, trained, and handled GR HR CH Roux, the fourth Grand Champion in HRC. We trained GR HR CH Pepper for a friend. Frank and GR HR CH Bean became our fist paying client.

I worked offshore for UNOCAL for 27 years. Becky, originally from Texas and Baylor graduate, worked the dogs while I was at work.

We love to go to our camp for duck season; hunt, cook, entertain, watch good dog work. You could say ‘we hunt, eat, hunt, eat, sleep'.

When our children were old enough to hold a gun properly, they started hunting with us. They went training with us, mostly watering the dogs and trying to stay out of trouble. Now, Brett, 20, can call and work ducks, shoot, and work a dog better than most men. Jennifer, a pharmacy tech, loves to hunt and practices her duck calling in the blind.

We have a full time helper, who helps care for the dogs, throws birds, etc.

After duck season I am ready to go back to work training dogs. The proof of our hard work is evident in how well our dogs perform in HRC Hunt Tests.

My wife, Becky and I have devoted our lives to these dogs. Twenty four hours a day we have their health and welfare as our main priority. As for the business and the endless tasks that have to be done, I can not take the credit. Becky allows me to devote all my attention to training. Her devotion to the dogs, love of duck hunting, and her business experience makes B&B Kennels run like a well oiled machine. Her knowledge of obedience and working in the young dog program are invaluable with getting the young dogs on the right start. I have learned having a woman's touch and voice with young dog's is an essential tool in our program. Becky is also a licensed Finished judge.
